Overview

Cognito LLC, a joint venture with Planned Systems International (PSI), is seeking a Behavioral Health Technician to support the ICE Health Services Corps (IHSC) at the T. Don Hutto Detention Center in Taylor, Texas. As a civilian contractor, you will provide high-quality healthcare services to individuals in ICE custody, working within a team of healthcare professionals including USPHS officers, civil service staff, and contractors.

Essential Functions and Job Responsibilities

The BHT provides mental health screenings, patient care management, and facilitates psycho-educational groups. Responsibilities include patient education, wellness checks, behavioral observations, compliance coaching, scheduling, documentation, and follow-up care under the supervision of a Behavioral Health Provider.

  • Assist in providing direct services, health data collection, behavior observation, sleep checks, and patient safety monitoring.
  • Facilitate therapeutic groups and provide individual education and support.
  • Develop behavioral interventions and gather patient care information.
  • Document clinical observations and perform wellness checks.
  • Conduct crisis management and manage program schedules.
  • Chaperone and record vital signs for telehealth appointments.
  • Maintain professional development and adhere to standards and regulations.
Minimum Requirements
  • Associates degree in behavioral science or related field.
  • Certification: AAPT level three within 12 months, current BLS/CPR certification.
  • Two years of experience in mental health or residential healthcare.
  • Ability to pass background check, drug screen, and maintain immunizations.
  • Knowledge of therapeutic communication, mental health screenings, and electronic health records.
  • Proficiency in English, with strong communication and organizational skills.
  • Ability to respond quickly in emergencies and physical capability for the demands of the role.

  • Ability to stand, walk, lift, and respond to emergencies.
