Job summary

Spokane Public Schools seeks a Behavior Intervention Paraeducator to support students with behavioral needs within the Special Design Program. You will assist teachers, implement BIPs, and help collect progress data under supervision.

The role emphasizes de-escalation and safe student handling skills. Responsibilities include supporting students with disabilities, carrying out behavior plans, and collaborating with BI teachers to ensure consistent program implementation in multiple settings.

Qualifications

• Experience working with students requiring behavioral interventions, including verbal de-escalation.
• Ability to complete Crisis Prevention Intervention (CPI) and district de-escalation training.
• Work with students with moderate to severe behavior challenges (elementary and secondary).
• Implement Behavior Intervention Plans (BIPs).
• Implement reinforcement systems, visual supports, and proactive behavior strategies.
• Collect and record student data as directed by the teacher or specialist to support progress monitoring and decision-making.
• Collaborate with BI teachers and building teams to ensure consistent implementation.

Responsibilities

• Provide instructional assistance in core academic areas as designed by teachers and specialists.
• Assist the educator in implementing student IEP accommodations and modifications and data collection.
• Support as part of a collaborative team and help implement de-escalation and soft-restraint techniques as directed.
