Job summary

Indiana University Health, Inc. is seeking a Patient Care Technician (PCA) to support bedside care and enhance the patient experience. The role involves assisting with meals and drinks, promoting mobility, helping with baths, and providing clean linens while maintaining a compassionate bedside manner.

The PCA will work closely with the RN to obtain vital signs, report changes, and follow safety protocols such as gait belts and alarms to ensure patient safety in a fast-paced hospital setting.

Qualifications

• Requires current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification through the AHA or completion of the IU Health PCA education program.
• Needs knowledge of patient care appropriate to the age and developmental level of patients served.
• Requires up-to-date knowledge of procedures and standards related to patient care activities.
• Requires proficiency in interpersonal and communication skills.
• Must maintain concentration with frequent interruptions and variable noise levels.
• Ability to exercise judgment and prioritize to manage a high workload within limited time.

Responsibilities

• Provide drinks, assist with meal ordering, encourage walking, assist with baths, and deliver clean linens and gowns to patients.
• Obtain vital signs and report abnormalities or changes to the bedside RN or charge nurse.
• Utilize safety measures (gait belts, bed/chair alarms) and stay within arm's reach to keep patients safe.
• Support bedside RN with clinical tasks and contribute to a compassionate, fast-paced care environment.
