Job summary

Indiana University Health, Inc. is seeking a Patient Care Technician (PCA) to support bedside care and enhance the patient experience.

The PCA will assist with meals, bathing, and linen deliveries, while obtaining vital signs and reporting changes to the RN. The role requires compassion, reliable communication, and the ability to work in a fast-paced hospital setting, with safety measures like gait belts and bed alarms in place.

Qualifications

• Requires current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification through the AHA or completion of IU Health PCA education program.
• Knowledge of care appropriate to the age and developmental level of patients served.
• Up-to-date knowledge of procedures and standards related to patient care activities.
• Proficiency in interpersonal and communication skills.
• Ability to withstand stress in a fast-paced environment.
• Ability to manage a high workload with limited time for completion.
• Knowledge of infection control principles.
• Ability to perform physically demanding, repetitious movements.
• Ability to read and perform basic math.
• Organizational skills and attention to detail.

Responsibilities

• Provide clinical assistance to the bedside RN by obtaining vital signs and reporting abnormalities.
• Assist with meals and meal ordering, escort patients during walking, and help with baths.
• Provide clean linens and gowns and assist with patient comfort.
• Maintain safety with gait belts and alarms and stay within arm's reach when moving patients.
