Job summary

The Seattle YMCA is seeking a Lead Instructor for its Before and After-School Enrichment (BASE) program to guide elementary-age participants through sports, arts, STEM and hands-on learning in a safe, caring environment. You will support the program supervisor, teach teamwork and social-emotional skills, and assist with the Play Everyday activities 2–4 days per week at midday.

Schedules vary by school and are set by the onsite supervisor.

Qualifications

• 18 years of age or older.
• 2 or more years’ experience with children; camps, child care, tutoring, and nannying.
• Ability to model and demonstrate YMCA values: caring, respect, responsibility and honesty.
• Experience planning and implementing group activities.
• Completion of minimum 12 credits of college coursework (100-level or above) and GED or high school diploma.
• CPR/First aid certification
• TB tests and MMR vaccination required
• Food worker card
• MERIT background check clearance.

Responsibilities

• Plans and implements culturally relevant and developmentally appropriate activities within the curriculum provided by the YDCoE.
• Supervises a group of children to ensure their health and safety and to provide for a positive experience for each child.
• May provide guidance to staff/volunteers overseeing the activities of groups of children.
• Professionally communicates day-to-day, confidential and evaluative information with parents/guardians.
• Follows YMCA policies and procedures, including those related to medical and disciplinary situations, child abuse prevention and emergency procedures.
• Assists in maintaining developmentally appropriate site including appearance, décor and cleanliness of site.
• May prepare and serve snacks. Cleans snack area.
• Assists at Check in or out for parents.
• Assumes responsibility for program operation when DCYF designated and qualified staff is not on premises.
• Provides onsite support for the school based Play Everyday Program at the school.
• Attends staff meetings and trainings as required.
• Other duties as assigned.
