Job summary

Mannik & Smith Group seeks a Construction Inspector with AWS CWI credentials for our Canton, MI project. The role requires independent field inspections of structural steel fabrication and erection, adherence to AWS D1.1/D1.1M, and coordination with project teams to ensure contract compliance.

The position offers a full-time schedule, on-site work, and reports to the Geoenvironmental department. Strong documentation and communication are essential to deliver accurate daily reports and timely

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required; AWS CWI credential preferred.
• Experience applying AWS D1.1/D1.1M during structural steel fabrication and field erection.
• Ability to prepare accurate field reports with observations, measurements and photographic documentation.

Responsibilities

• Review project documents, specs, and welding procedures before inspections.
• Perform visual welding inspections and verify welding parameters and material qualifications.
• Coordinate with project manager, contractor and NDT personnel for testing and reporting.
• Prepare daily inspection reports, maintain traceability, and escalate deficiencies promptly.
• Witness welder qualification and observe testing as required by the contract.
