Job summary

The Mannik & Smith Group, Inc. (MSG) is a multidisciplinary engineering and construction services firm. The Construction Inspector provides independent field representation, conducts inspections, ensures welding and bolting meet AWS D1.1/D1.1M and project specs, and coordinates with the project team.

This full-time role in Canton, MI requires AWS CWI, strong inspection reporting, and the ability to travel between fabrication facilities and job sites. Compensation is $38-$45 per hour.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED is required; technical welding/inspection education preferred.
• AWS Certified Welding Inspector credential required.
• Experience applying AWS D1.1/D1.1M in structural steel fabrication and field erection.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills are essential.
• Valid driver’s license is required.
• Ability to read and apply construction drawings, submittals, and inspection plans.

Responsibilities

• Review inspection scope, project specs, drawings, and submittals before inspections.
• Verify WPSs, materials, and technician qualifications are appropriate.
• Coordinate daily inspection coverage with project management and site contacts.
• Perform and document visual welding inspections, including prep, fit-up, and final weld assessment.
• Maintain accurate field reports with locations, measurements, and deficiencies.
• Escalate nonconforming work and coordinate repairs or retesting as required.
• Ensure compliance with quality management and health & safety procedures.
