Job summary

Intertek Building & Construction in Plymouth, MI is seeking a Certified Welding Inspector (CWI) to join the Professional Services Industries team. You will inspect structural steel, welds, and related QA activities on construction sites, ensuring compliance with AWS D1.1 and safety standards.

The role requires a CWI, 4+ years of relevant experience, ability to read blueprints, and strong written and verbal communication.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or equivalent.
• AWS Certified Welding Inspector (CWI) Certification with D1.1 experience.
• Minimum of 4 years of relevant experience.
• Ability to read blueprints and interpret tolerances.
• Computer skills: Microsoft Windows and Microsoft Office.
• Good written and verbal communication; able to work independently or with others.
• Willingness to work off shifts and overtime.
• Valid driver's license with reliable driving record.

Responsibilities

• Ensure compliance with safety and environmental guidelines, policies and regulations.
• Test and inspect structural steel during erection on building sites.
• Inspect general construction and structural steel erection for buildings.
• Perform visual inspections on welded products in progress and completed jobs.
• Inspect welding jobs for defects such as cracks, porosity, undercut, etc.
• Record results of tests and welding inspections.
• Issue and follow up on non-conformances until closeout.
• Plan and conduct analysis, inspection, tests for quality assurance.
• Document data from QA activities in line with policies.
• Communicate significant issues to management and suggest improvements.
• Measure dimensions and verify conformance to specs with measuring tools.
