Job summary

Johnson, Mirmiran & Thompson’s aviation practice seeks an experienced Aviation Project Engineer to contribute to planning, design, and delivery of airfield infrastructure across projects and clients.

The role includes leading design efforts, coordinating multidisciplinary teams, supporting client relationships, and mentoring junior staff. Travel to the Pittsburgh area and 3 days on-site per week are expected.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in civil engineering from an ABET-accredited program.
• Professional Engineer license in PA or OH, or ability to obtain via reciprocity.
• 8–15 years of aviation/airport design experience.
• Experience with airfield projects and pavement work.
• Knowledge of FAA Advisory Circulars and airport standards.
• Experience at commercial service airports.
• Experience supporting federally funded airport projects.

Responsibilities

• Lead design of aviation infrastructure projects including airfield, landside and site development.
• Prepare calculations, plans, specifications, reports, and bid documents.
• Coordinate with clients, agencies, and subconsultants.
• Oversee planning, design development, coordination, and quality control.
• Assist with scope, schedule, staffing, and budgeting.
• Attend client meetings and support business development.
• Mentor developing engineers and contribute to standards.
