Job summary

Johnson, Mirmiran & Thompson (JMT) is seeking an Aviation Project Engineer to contribute to the planning, design, and delivery of aviation infrastructure in Pittsburgh. You will work with project managers, engineers, clients, and subconsultants to deliver high‑quality solutions and, depending on experience, may lead design efforts and mentor junior staff.

The position requires a BA in civil engineering, PE license in PA or OH, 8–15 years of experience, and familiarity with FAA ACs and airfield

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in civil engineering from ABET-accredited program.
  • Professional Engineer license in Pennsylvania or Ohio, or licensure via reciprocity.
  • 8–15 years of aviation engineering/airport design experience.
  • Experience with airfield projects (apron, taxiway, runway).
  • Knowledge of FAA Advisory Circulars and airport design standards.
  • Experience at commercial service airports.
  • Pavement evaluation and pavement design experience.
  • Experience supporting federally funded airport projects.

Responsibilities

  • Support or lead design of aviation infrastructure projects, including airfield, landside, utility, and site development improvements.
  • Prepare engineering calculations, plans, specifications, reports, cost estimates, and bid documents.
  • Coordinate with project team members, clients, agencies, and subconsultants.
  • Participate in project planning, design development, interdisciplinary coordination, constructability reviews, and quality-control activities.
  • Assist with evaluating alternatives and developing practical engineering solutions.
  • Manage assigned tasks and support delivery of projects in accordance with schedules, budgets, and quality requirements.
  • Attend client meetings and collaborate with stakeholders throughout project development.
  • Apply FAA standards, client requirements, and industry best practices in project design.
  • Assist with scope, schedule, staffing, and workload planning
  • Support proposal preparation and project interview activities, as appropriate.
  • Participate in aviation or engineering industry organizations and professional-development activities.
