Job summary

Buro Happold in the USA is seeking a Principal Mechanical Engineer to lead aviation projects within the Building Environments Group. This role requires strategic and technical leadership across complex programs, client relationships, and business development in aviation.

You will oversee multidisciplinary design, mentor teams, and ensure high-quality deliverables while aligning with FAA requirements and industry best practices.

Qualifications

• 15+ years of Mechanical Engineering design experience in building services/construction.
• 10+ years of aviation experience including leadership of complex aviation projects.
• Bachelor's or Master's degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related field.
• P.E. or equivalent professional certification; LEED AP preferred.

Responsibilities

• Provide senior leadership across complex aviation projects.
• Mentor and coach engineers within the team.
• Oversee production of coordinated design drawings, specs, and reports.
• Develop client relationships and support business development in aviation.
• Manage project scope, budgets, schedules, and resources.
• Ensure FAA compliance and adherence to building codes.
