Job summary

Buro Happold is seeking a Principal Mechanical Engineer – Aviation to lead senior technical delivery within the Building Environments Group in New York. You will guide multidisciplinary teams on large aviation projects, ensuring excellent design, compliance with FAA requirements, and strong client engagement.

The role combines strategic leadership with hands-on engineering, mentoring, and a focus on high-performance, energy-conscious solutions for iconic aviation facilities.

Qualifications

• 15+ years of Mechanical Engineering design experience in building services and construction.

Responsibilities

• Provide senior leadership across complex aviation projects, overseeing technical excellence and delivery.
• Mentor and coach colleagues to foster innovation and effective delegation.
• Develop client relationships and support business development in aviation.
• Oversee project scope, budgets, schedules, resources, and commercial performance.
• Ensure FAA requirements, airport constraints, and aviation best practices are applied.
• Deliver high-quality drawings, specifications, and reports with attention to detail.
