Job summary

Rivian is seeking a Vehicle Operator II in San Francisco, CA to support autonomy validation, ground logistics, and driver training. You will lead on-shift operations, prep/procurement, data offload, and safety-focused testing across prototype vehicles on public roads and test tracks.

In this role you will onboard operators, coach on safety and testing procedures, and ensure high safety standards while coordinating with the Operations team. Some travel and flexible shifts may be required.

Qualifications

• 2+ years in automotive driving or AV testing with coaching experience.
• Excellent interpersonal, written and verbal communication skills.
• Ability to focus for 6–8 hours while monitoring autonomous systems.
• Able to lift up to 50 lbs and stay active on shop floors.
• Willing to travel up to 20% and handle non-standard shifts as needed.
• Proficient with laptops and enterprise collaboration tools.

Responsibilities

• Train and coach operators, onboard new hires, and deliver safety instruction.
• Coach on disengagement protocols, defensive driving, and test procedures.
• Guide operators on workflows, logging, software flashing, and vehicle prep.
• Act as on-shift floor lead and primary contact for driver questions.
• Operate prototype test vehicles in various modes on diverse roads.
• Maintain safety and provide timely escalation of issues to engineering.
• Supervise pre-trip/post-trip inspections and data handling.
