Job summary

Rivian Automotive in Chicago, IL seeks a Vehicle Operator II to support autonomous systems validation. You will drive prototype vehicles across public roads and test tracks, while mentoring newer operators to uphold safety and high testing standards.

You will lead on-shift operations, manage vehicle prep, data offloading, and post-trip reporting, and collaborate with engineering teams to improve test procedures and fleet readiness.

Qualifications

• 2+ years driving or autonomous vehicle testing with coaching or training peers.
• Excellent communication and ability to provide constructive feedback.
• Ability to maintain focus while monitoring autonomous systems for 6–8 hours daily.
• Lift up to 50 lbs and stay active across testing environments.
• Willingness to travel up to 20% for off-site testing.

Responsibilities

• Operate prototype test vehicles in autonomous, semi-autonomous, and manual modes.
• Lead on-shift floor, coach drivers on safety, and document test procedures.
• Oversee vehicle prep, data offloading, and shift handovers.
• Coordinate ground support, inspections, and fleet logistics.
• Record and report system behavior and edge cases to engineers.
