Job summary

CBRE Group, Inc. is seeking an Automation Engineer to support advanced automation systems for a major online retailer. You’ll work with conveyors, PLCs, and SCADA to optimize uptime, safety, and efficiency at mission-critical facilities.

You’ll diagnose issues, implement improvements, and partner with site teams to ensure reliable operation. The role demands hands-on problem solving, flexible scheduling, and strong collaboration with stakeholders.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's Degree preferred with 2–5 years of relevant experience.
• Experience in at least two engineering design cycles including specification, component selection and programming.
• 2+ years of experience working with PLC programming, robotics system components and controls, and SCADA‑based monitoring and control systems.
• Ability to be available and work in a flexible schedule/shift/work area, including weekends, nights, and/or holidays.
• Ability to independently solve problems and carry out general instructions in standard situations with limited to no oversight.

Responsibilities

• Promote a safe working environment by complying with codes, regulations, and safety directives.
• Troubleshoot and modify software for material handling control systems (PLC/PC controllers, Controllogix/Compactlogix, RSLogix 5000).
• Provide first-level escalation support on-site and remotely, including after hours.
• Inspect systems to ensure operation meets design specs and client requirements.
• Oversee development scope, work requests, scheduling, and contractor inspections.
• Engineer process solutions and reliability improvements from concept to network implementation.
• Monitor Industrial networks (Ethernet, ControlNet, DeviceNet, Profibus, AS-I) and motor control systems.
• Collaborate with site team to resolve equipment electrical problems affecting performance.
• Communicate with stakeholders on issues, timelines and production impact.
• Lead failures analysis and recommendations to prevent recurrence.
• Perform controls assessments to maintain equipment reliability.
• Communicate technical issues and timelines to site leadership and maintenance teams.
• Foster positive relationships with client and operations teams.
• Perform other duties as needed.
