First Chicago Insurance Company seeks an experienced Litigation Specialist to manage litigated and complex auto liability claims. You will investigate, determine coverage, reserve appropriately, and coordinate with defense counsel and experts.

The role requires a college degree or 5 years of claims adjusting experience, knowledge of legal and medical terminology, and strong negotiation and communication skills; licensing examinations may be required by state statute.

Qualifications

• College Degree and / or 5 years of applicable claims adjusting experience.
• Knowledge of legal and medical terminology.
• Excellent negotiation, communication, organizational and interpersonal skills.
• Ability to pass written examinations where required by state statutes to become a licensed claim adjuster.

Responsibilities

• Handle litigation claims in accordance with established office procedures.
• Determine coverage and draft any applicable reservations of rights letters.
• Conduct prompt investigations by securing statements from involved parties/witnesses and obtaining documents (police reports, medical, photos, appraisals).
• Litigation management including strategizing with defense counsel and experts on defense cases.
• Maintain an appropriate diary on all open files.
• Conduct business with vendors to manage expenses and uphold service quality.
• Research and interpret case law, statutes, and coverage forms to adjust and conclude claims.
• Evaluate and determine potential use of experts and/or field investigators.
• Maintain claim files and document activity per regulations and company policies.
• Prepare and present claim evaluations to secure appropriate settlement authority.
• Establish and maintain indemnity and expense reserves.
• Conduct onsite reviews of defense counsel as required by management.
• Adhere to Department of Insurance rules specific to the loss state.
