First Chicago Insurance Company is seeking an experienced Litigation Specialist to manage litigated auto liability claims. The role involves investigations, coverage determinations, and coordination with defense teams to resolve complex cases.

Responsibilities include reserving, diary management, and ensuring regulatory compliance. A college degree or 5 years of claims experience is required, along with strong negotiation and communication skills.

Qualifications

• College Degree and / or 5 years of applicable claims adjusting experience.
• Knowledge of legal and medical terminology.
• Excellent negotiation, communication, organizational and interpersonal skills.

Responsibilities

• Handle litigation claims in accordance with established office procedures.
• Determine coverage and draft any applicable reservations of rights letters.
• Conduct prompt investigations by securing statements from involved parties/witnesses and obtaining documents (police reports, medical bills, photos, appraisals).
• Litigation management including strategy with defense counsel and experts on defense cases and declaratory judgment actions.
• Maintain an appropriate diary on all open files.
• Engage vendors to maintain reasonable expenses and uphold service quality.
• Research and interpret case law, statutes, and coverage forms to adjust and conclude claims.
• Evaluate use of experts and field investigators as needed.
• Maintain claim files and document all activity per regulations and policies.
• Prepare and present claim evaluations to secure settlement authority.
• Establish and maintain indemnity and expense reserves.
• Review defense counsel onsite as required by management.
• Adhere to Department of Insurance rules for the loss state.
• Perform additional duties as assigned by management.
