First Chicago Insurance Company, based in Illinois, seeks an experienced Litigation Specialist to manage litigated and complex auto liability claims. You will handle investigations, determine coverage, draft reservations of rights, and coordinate with defense counsel to pursue appropriate settlements.

The role requires strong negotiation and analytical skills, familiarity with legal/medical terminology, and the ability to manage multiple files with discipline and accuracy.

Qualifications

• College degree and/or 5 years of applicable claims adjusting experience.
• Knowledge of legal and medical terminology.
• Excellent negotiation, communication, organizational and interpersonal skills.
• Ability to pass written examinations to become a licensed claim adjuster.

Responsibilities

• Handle litigation claims in accordance with established office procedures.
• Determine coverage and draft any applicable reservations of rights letters.
• Conduct prompt investigations by securing statements and documents (police reports, medical specials, photos, appraisals).
• Litigation management including strategizing with defense counsel and experts for defense cases.
• Maintain an appropriate diary on all open files.
• Work with vendors to maintain reasonable expenses and quality service.
• Research and interpret case law, statutes, and forms to adjust and settle claims.
• Evaluate use of experts and/or field investigators as needed.
• Maintain claim files and document activity per regulations and policies.
• Prepare and present claim evaluations to secure settlement authority.
• Establish and maintain indemnity and expense reserves.
• Conduct onsite reviews of defense counsel as required.
• Adhere to Department of Insurance regulations for the loss state.
• Additional duties as needed by supervisor/management.
