Job summary

First Chicago Insurance Company seeks an experienced Litigation Specialist to handle litigated and complex auto liability claims. You will conduct prompt investigations, determine coverage, draft reservations of rights letters, and manage litigation with defense counsel and experts.

The role requires a college degree or 5 years of claims adjusting experience, plus strong negotiation, communication and organizational skills. Compliance with state insurance regulations is essential.

Qualifications

• College degree or 5 years of applicable claims adjusting experience.
• Knowledge of legal and medical terminology.
• Excellent negotiation, communication, organizational and interpersonal skills; ability to pass state licensing exams as needed.

Responsibilities

• Handle litigation claims following established procedures.
• Determine coverage and draft reservations of rights letters as needed.
• Conduct prompt investigations by securing statements, police reports, medical bills, photos and appraisals.
• Manage litigation with defense counsel and experts, including declaratory judgment actions.
• Maintain diaries on all open files and document claim activity per regulations and policies.
• Research and interpret case law, statutes, and coverage forms to properly adjust and conclude claims.
• Evaluate use of experts and field investigators when appropriate.
• Prepare and present claim evaluations to obtain settlement authority.
• Establish indemnity and expense reserves and review defense counsel in on-site visits.
• Ensure compliance with Department of Insurance rules for the relevant loss state.
