Job summary

First Chicago Insurance Company seeks an experienced Litigation Specialist to manage litigated and complex auto liability claims. The role covers investigations, coverage determinations, reserving, and coordinating with defense counsel and experts to reach proper settlements.

Qualifications

• College Degree and / or 5 years of applicable claims adjusting experience.
• Knowledge of legal and medical terminology.
• Excellent negotiation, communication, organizational and interpersonal skills.
• Ability to pass written examinations to become a licensed claim adjuster.

Responsibilities

• Handle litigation claims in accordance with established office procedures.
• Determine coverage and draft any applicable reservations of rights letters.
• Conduct prompt investigations by securing statements and documents.
• Litigation management including strategizing with defense counsel and experts.
• Maintain an appropriate diary on all open files.
• Work with vendors to manage expenses and uphold service quality.
• Research and interpret case law, statutes, and forms to adjust and conclude claims.
• Evaluate and determine potential use of experts and/or field investigators.
• Maintain claim files and document activity per regulations and policies.
• Prepare and present claim evaluations to secure settlement authority.
• Establish and maintain indemnity and expense reserves.
• Conduct onsite reviews of defense counsel as required.
• Adhere to Department of Insurance loss-state rules and regulations.
