Job summary

Gersh Autism is seeking a compassionate Behavior Technician (Paraprofessional) to support students with autism in a Brooklyn classroom. You will work directly with students, assisting in academic and behavioral goals and helping them develop communication and social skills.

The role involves implementing IEPs and BIPs, collecting progress data, and collaborating with teachers and behavioral specialists to create a structured learning environment. A CPI-style safety approach may be required.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent required.
• Associate’s degree or higher in education, psychology, or related field preferred.

Responsibilities

• Assist the classroom teacher in implementing IEPs and BIPs for students with autism.
• Provide one-on-one and small group support to students, promoting academic, social, and behavioral growth.
• Help students with daily tasks including communication, social interaction, and self-management skills.
• Prepare materials and adapt activities to help students participate and leave with appropriate clothing and devices.
• Support students during classroom activities, field trips, and other school events.
• Implement strategies from behavior intervention plans to promote self-regulation and readiness to learn.
• Collect and document data on student performance, behavior, and progress toward goals.
• Collaborate with teachers and behavioral specialists to maintain a positive learning environment.
• Communicate progress and challenges with teachers and staff.
• Attend daily training sessions with behavioral analysts and pursue professional development.
