Job summary

Gersh Autism Long Island City, New York, seeks an experienced Assistant Teacher to support students on the autism spectrum (ages 5–15) in a private school setting. Under the Head Teacher and BCBA supervision, you will deliver instruction, implement individualized activities, and help collect data toward each student’s goals.

This full-time position runs on a 12‑month calendar with schedule 8:00 am–3:30 pm (occasional 4:00 pm team meetings).

Qualifications

• Experience in teaching special education students (preferably using ABA methodology).
• Understanding of needs of students with autism spectrum disorders and/or other developmental disabilities.
• Knowledge of NYS Common Core Standards.
• Excellent verbal and written communication, and interpersonal skills.
• Excellent organizational and problem-solving skills.
• Computer proficiency (e.g., database, word processing).

Responsibilities

• Under supervision of the Head Teacher and the BCBA, provide instruction to students and help implement individualized curricular activities.
• Support student learning through data collection on programs and progress toward goals.
