Job summary

Gersh Autism in Brooklyn, NY is seeking a Teaching Assistant to support teachers in delivering instruction to students aged 5-21 with autism. You will assist with academics and life skills, adapt materials, and help maintain a safe, engaging classroom environment.

The role requires collaboration with therapists and specialists, attendance at trainings, and accurate record-keeping. The position runs Monday through Friday, 8:00 AM to 3:30 PM, with occasional after-hours meetings; a BS/BA is

Qualifications

• BS / BA Degree preferred.
• Teaching Assistant Skills Test (ATAS) preferred.
• Experience working with children on the autism spectrum preferred in a Teaching Assistant role.

Responsibilities

• Assist the teacher in using appropriate methodologies when working with students, such as Applied Behavior Analysis or Collaborative Problem Solving.
• Create an authentic environment by displaying student work and projects both in and out of the classroom.
• Maintain a consistent and safe environment for the students.
• Support the teacher in planning and executing daily lessons which meet the needs of individual students as well as appropriate group lessons.
• Modify materials as needed to successfully teach students.
