Job summary

Augusta University is seeking an Assistant Director to join the Academic Advisement Center and lead the Academic and Career Advising team. You will supervise full‑time advisors, guide advising in one of three meta‑major areas, and help implement the university‑wide advisement strategy to support student success.

You will collaborate with other ADs to maintain high‑performance, student‑centered service, manage technology systems, and develop workshops for academic and career development.

Qualifications

  • Master’s degree in a related field is required.
  • Minimum of two years of academic advising experience.
  • Experience with supervision and staff development.
  • Experience in student development or first‑year experience programs.

Job Summary

The Assistant Director (AD) is a member of the Academic Success and Planning (ASP) leadership team in the Academic Advisement Center (AAC). The AD supervises full‑time Academic and Career Advisors and provides advisement in one of three meta‑major areas: Science & Mathematics; Business, Computing & Education; and Arts, Humanities & Social Sciences. The AD collaborates with the other two ADs to support student success and implement the university‑wide advisement strategy, sets a culture of student‑centered, high‑performance service, manages technology systems, and develops workshops that foster academic and career development.

Responsibilities
  • Participate on the AAC Leadership Team, leading cross‑functional initiatives, overseeing student progress from orientation to graduation, and coordinating advising programming.
  • Develop and implement innovative technology‑based advising strategies (e.g., Navigate, College Scheduler, Smart Guidance, Banner) to enhance student contact and service.
  • Manage a caseload of advisees and staff, ensuring effective staffing, mentorship, and performance evaluation.
  • Serve as a liaison to academic colleges, departments, and campus schools, supporting key advising projects such as academic probation, transfer students, dual enrollment, and degree progress.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned.
Required Qualifications

Master’s degree from an accredited institution and a minimum of two years of academic advising experience, supervisory experience, and experience in student development, career development, or a first‑year experience course.

Preferred Qualifications

Master’s degree in Academic Advising, College Student Personnel, Student Affairs & Higher Education, (psychological) Counseling, or a closely related field; five years of full‑time advising experience at the college/university level, including supervision or mentoring.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

Knowledge of student information systems such as Banner, academic advising disciplines, Microsoft Office, and degree audit tools (DegreeWorks). Strong initiative, communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills; proficiency with social media and marketing materials; ability to learn new software and maintain confidentiality.

Shift, Salary & Benefits

Shift: Days, Monday‑Friday (outside regular hours may be required). Salary: Competitive, within the established institutional range. Recruitment Period: Until filled. Benefits: Health, dental, life, teachers retirement, paid vacation, sick leave, 13 paid holidays, and Tuition Assistance for full‑time employees with ≥6 months employment.

Conditions of Employment
