Augusta University-
Academic Advisement is where undergraduates begin. Our centralized advisement services provide comprehensive support as students navigate their way into their respective major programs. Our team of Undergraduate Academic Advisors are well‑versed in the undergraduate programs and core curriculum, assisting students in developing academic plans, selecting courses, recommending actions, and connecting them with campus resources as needed.
We work closely with academic programs and support services to help students identify and confirm their academic career paths. Our professional advisors offer ongoing support through outreach services, personal phone calls, targeted emails, and electronic messages. We have two convenient locations on the second floor of University Hall (262) on the Summerville campus and the Health Sciences Campus. We are open weekdays from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Walk‑in hours for quick consultations can be found on the Academic Advisement Center Staff webpage and the Academic Advisement website. Advising appointments are required for next‑term advisement to ensure both the advisor and student are prepared for a productive session.
The Undergraduate Academic Advisor provides mentoring and advisement for a cohort of first and second year students to assist in goal setting, academic planning, and career exploration through personal follow‑up/outreach, individual appointments, and programming.
Direct Student Advising and Support: Meets formally with students to develop meaningful connections using holistic advising and coaching methods. Provides high‑quality academic advising services to new and current students. Guides advisees to identify academic, professional, and personal goals that align with their abilities, interests, and the institution's purpose. Maintains accurate and detailed advising notes through the electronic advising system, tracks advisee performance during and at the end of each semester, and offers intentional outreach. Maintains records for current and former students in compliance with FERPA. Cultivates supportive communication by phone, text, email, and face‑to‑face to help students navigate their academic journey.
Advising and Retention: Advises and coaches students regarding their degree requirements, including but not limited to certification, application, change of major, permissions, test scores, course selection, withdrawals, and grades. Monitors retention, progression, and graduation of students within the assigned population and offers proactive outreach for those at academic or social risk. Connects students with appropriate academic and non‑academic services, maintains accurate documentation, and collaborates with faculty, career staff, and student services. Works with students, faculty, deans, and department chairs to develop realistic goals that support academic and personal success.
Professional Development and Operational Support: Utilizes best practices from analyzing advising activity reports and student success metrics. Contributes to unit‑level communication plans for key milestones and registration deadlines. Assists in developing, implementing, and evaluating events, programs, and resources that support student success. Attends departmental meetings to stay aware of curricular changes, participates in training to understand technology and student development theory, and engages in professional development opportunities offered through Augusta University and external organizations such as NACADA. Performs all other duties as assigned.
Master's degree from an accredited college or university with one year of related experience OR Bachelor's degree with two years of experience in education or a customer/student‑facing role.
Master's degree with experience in higher education.
Knowledge: Proficient in Microsoft Office and other computer software/databases. Knowledge of advisement theories and practices to help students achieve success.
Skills: Detail‑oriented with strong time management, organizational, prioritization, and customer service skills. Excellent interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills.
Abilities: Maintain confidentiality. Make sound judgments and identify solutions. Work independently and in a team environment. Develop and maintain professional relationships. Encourage student rapport with a congenial demeanor. Meet deadlines in a fast, multitask environment. Use proper English, grammar, and punctuation consistently.
Shift: Days; M‑F (outside of standard business hours may be required).

Salary to be commensurate with qualifications within the established range (generally minimum‑midpoint). Recruitment period: until filled. Augusta University offers a variety of benefits to full‑time benefits‑eligible employees and some part‑time employees: health insurance, dental insurance, life insurance, Teachers Retirement System (or Optional Retirement Plan), earned vacation time, sick leave, and 13 paid holidays. Full‑time employees with more than six months of service may be considered for the Tuition Assistance Program.
