Job summary

CesiumAstro, Inc. seeks an Associate Mechanical Engineering Manager to lead a team behind airborne, maritime, and ground-based phased array systems. You will mentor engineers, manage staffing and resource planning, and drive process improvements while remaining hands-on in critical design work.

You will guide concept development, mechanical architecture, and environmental qualification activities, ensuring on-time delivery across multiple programs and customer engagements.

Qualifications

• BS in Mechanical Engineering or related field from an accredited university.
• 4–7 years of industry experience in design and analysis of aerospace/defense/ruggedized electronics products.
• 1 additional year in leadership roles (technical lead, IPT lead, or manager).
• Proven ability to mentor and motivate engineers in a collaborative environment.
• Experience designing PCBA-level and system-level electronics packaging for aerospace/defense.
• Experience across full product lifecycle from concept to sustainment.
• Proficiency with ANSYS Mechanical and SolidWorks simulations; CAD/PLM tools such as SolidWorks and SolidWorks PDM.
• Experience in aerospace/defense manufacturing methods (CNC, sheet metal, castings, bonding, additive).
• Experience supporting environmental qualification testing (MIL-STD-810, RTCA DO-160, others).
• Knowledge of IPC, ASME, SAE, MIL-STD, RTCA DO-160 standards.

Responsibilities

• Lead and develop a team of Mechanical Engineers with a collaborative culture.
• Provide coaching, mentorship, and career development for team members.
• Staffing, hiring, onboarding, and resource allocation across programs.
• Partner with leadership to meet technical, cost, and schedule objectives.
• Develop and improve mechanical engineering processes, standards, tools, and best practices.
• Promote technical excellence through design reviews and guidance.
• Contribute as a senior engineer on ruggedized packaging and phased array systems.
• Lead concept development, mechanical architecture, detailed design, analysis, and transition to production.
• Support proposal development and customer technical discussions.
• Foster cross-functional collaboration across Mechanical, Electrical, RF, Manufacturing, Quality, Test, and Supply Chain.
