Job summary

Independence Excavating, Inc. is seeking a driven Assistant Project Manager to support day-to-day project administration, manage POs, subcontracts, RFIs, submittals, and job costs under the Project Manager and Superintendent.

This role offers a pathway into full Project Management with exposure to heavy highway construction and active field coordination. The successful candidate will have a civil engineering or construction management background, 3+ years of relevant experience, proficiency with

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in civil engineering or construction management or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
• 3+ years’ experience working in heavy highway construction.
• 2+ years’ in an Assistant Project Manager role and/or Project Engineer role.
• Experience in construction management software; HCSS, Primavera, P6 Scheduling a plus.
• Must have strong organizational skills to handle multiple tasks.
• Must be willing and able to travel up to 30%.

Responsibilities

• Assist with day-to-day project administrative and management needs.
• Support Project Manager and Superintendent with purchase orders and subcontracts.
• Prepare and analyze project cost codes and monthly payment requisitions.
• Review RFIs, submittals, and job costs and projections.
• Coordinate with local officials and stakeholders to maintain compliance.
• Develop change order requests and assist with owner communications.
• Attend progress meetings and track schedule and budget.
• Ensure subcontractor and supplier coordination and documentation.
