Job summary

Independence Excavating, Inc. seeks an Assistant Project Manager to support the Project Manager and Superintendent with day-to-day administrative and management tasks. You will handle purchase orders, subcontracts, RFIs, submittals, and job costs, with a clear path to a Project Management role.

The role emphasizes coordination with stakeholders, on-site oversight, and accurate cost tracking, with opportunities for advancement.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in civil engineering or construction management or equivalent.
• 3+ years’ experience in heavy highway construction preferred.
• 2+ years in Assistant Project Manager or Project Engineer role.
• Experience with construction management software; HCSS, Primavera, P6 scheduling is a plus.
• Willingness to travel up to 30%.

Responsibilities

• Reading, understanding and interpreting drawings and specifications.
• Preparing and analyzing project schedules.
• Review site safety, security, and maintenance of traffic and storm water plans.
• Ensuring required permits are obtained.
• Developing subcontracts and purchase orders with contacts for superintendents.
• Coordinating construction activities with local officials to maintain good standing.
• Preparing change orders and communicating with owners and team.
• Visiting projects regularly to monitor progress and issues.
