Job summary

Independence Excavating in Sterling, VA is seeking an Assistant Project Manager to support the day-to-day project administrative and management needs. You will assist the Project Manager and Superintendent with purchase orders, subcontracts, RFIs, submittals, job costs and projections, with a path to growth into a full Project Manager role.

The ideal candidate has a civil engineering or construction management background, 3+ years in heavy highway construction, and experience with construction

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in civil engineering or construction management or equivalent
• 3+ years' experience in heavy highway construction
• 2+ years in an Assistant Project Manager or Project Engineer role
• Experience with construction management software; HCSS, Primavera, P6 Scheduling a plus
• Strong organizational skills and ability to manage multiple sites
• Willingness to travel up to 30%

Responsibilities

• Reading, understanding and interpreting drawings and specifications
• Preparing and analyzing project schedules
• Review site safety, security, and maintenance of traffic and storm water pollution plans
• Making sure that required permits are obtained
• Preparing, reviewing and returning submittals for items to be manufactured or provided
• Assembling job cost codes for projects and regularly update
• Preparing monthly detailed Payment Requisitions for submission to owners
• Coordinating Subcontractors and material deliveries on major items
• Holding progress meetings with the Owner and Subcontractors
• Preparing change order requests or extra work to be presented to the owner
• Developing positive working relationships with Owners and Project Engineers
• Reviewing and approving Subcontractor / Supplier estimates & invoices
• Visiting projects regularly to stay up on current issues and progress
• Other duties as assigned
