Job summary

Volkert is seeking a Transportation Engineer in Training to support projects across Alabama, Mississippi, and Tennessee. You will collect data, assist with traffic studies, and prepare roadway design plans using OpenRoads Designer.

The role requires 2–4 years of relevant experience and an active EIT certification. You will work with a multidisciplinary team on traffic signal plans, TMPs, and cost estimates while learning to build a personal client base and contribute to project budgets.

Qualifications

• BS in Civil Engineering required.
• EIT (E.I.) Certification required.
• 2–4 years of experience in traffic or roadway design.
• Familiarity with DOT design standards, MUTCD, and AASHTO.
• Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing.
• Willingness to develop a personal client base.

Responsibilities

• Collect and analyze data for project plans and reports.
• Assist with traffic impact studies and safety studies.
• Prepare roadway design plans using OpenRoads Designer.
• Develop traffic signal design plans for new intersections.
• Create TMPs and signing/pavement marking plans.
• Assist in preparing project estimates and schedules.
• Review quantities and drawings for compliance.
