Job summary

Smith Seckman Reid, Inc seeks a motivated Plumbing Engineer-in-Training I to join our Plumbing Engineering team. You will assist with design and analysis of plumbing and fire protection systems across healthcare, higher education, commercial, sports, and civic projects.

Collaborating with experienced engineers, you will develop construction documents, perform sizing and calculations, and use Revit/AutoCAD to coordinate layouts while pursuing licensure and professional growth.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Architectural Engineering, Civil Engineering, or a related engineering discipline.
• Engineer-in-Training (EIT) certification obtained or ability to obtain certification within six months of hire.
• Strong interest in thermal and fluid systems and building engineering.
• Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills.
• Ability to work effectively in a collaborative, team-oriented environment.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite.

Responsibilities

• Assist with the design and analysis of plumbing and fire protection systems for a wide variety of facility types.
• Develop plumbing construction documents, including drawings, specifications, and technical calculations.
• Perform engineering calculations related to pipe sizing, fixture counts, system demand, system temperature and pressure, and equipment selection.
• Utilize Revit, AutoCAD, and other design software to develop and coordinate building system layouts.
• Participate in interdisciplinary coordination with mechanical, electrical, structural, architectural, and civil teams.
• Review equipment submittals, shop drawings, and product data for compliance with project requirements.
• Conduct site visits and field observations to survey existing conditions, verify installation progress and assist with issue resolution.
• Support project managers with project documentation, schedules, and client deliverables.
• Research applicable codes, standards, and regulations to ensure compliant system designs.
