Job summary

The City of Salisbury is seeking an Asphalt Crew Leader for the Public Works Street Division. Lead a crew in roadway construction, repair, and maintenance, coordinating daily tasks and ensuring safety and quality standards.

Responsibilities include supervising operations, planning work, reading plans, operating equipment, and collaborating with related crews. Requires 3–5 years in asphalt, NC CDL Class A, and ability to work after hours.

Qualifications

• High School diploma or GED.
• 3–5 years of experience in asphalt construction or related field.
• Skilled in operating construction equipment and tools.
• Valid North Carolina Class A CDL with Manual and Fifth wheel.
• Ability to work after normal business hours in on-call and emergency situations.

Responsibilities

• Supervise and participate in asphalt construction, repair, and maintenance projects.
• Plan, coordinate, and assign daily work activities for crew members.
• Read and interpret construction plans, drawings, and specifications.
• Operate and oversee use of light to heavy equipment (loaders, dump trucks, excavators, skid steers).
• Ensure OSHA safety standards, work zones, and city policies are followed.
• Maintain inventory of materials, tools, and equipment needed for daily ops.
• Calculate quantities and order materials per project specs and codes.
• Inspect work for quality and adherence to standards.
• Train, mentor, and support crew members to foster a productive team.
• Assist Street Operations Manager with scheduling and crew development.
• Coordinate with concrete and stormwater crews to support division operations.
• Respond to after-hours and emergency situations as required.
