The City of Seattle's Department of Transportation (SDOT) seeks an asphalt worker to prepare and apply asphalt on job sites, lead patch crews when needed, and enforce safety and traffic precautions. This role focuses on delivering safe, durable road surfaces and coordinating crew members on site.

Key duties include setting up traffic control, distributing asphalt binder, raking to thickness and grade, and finishing joints and patches.

Qualifikationen

• One year of experience in hot asphalt construction, maintenance and repair.
• Combinations of education, training, and experience will be evaluated on an individual basis for comparability.

Aufgaben

• Sets up traffic control at the job site by safety policies and practices.
• Distributes hot asphaltic road-building binder and topping over road surfaces by raking and combing material to correct thickness.
• Rakes asphalt to bring the surface to the proper grade and required contour of the street.
• Tamps and smooths joints, gutters, connections, road patches, and related areas so asphaltic mixtures will properly adhere.
• Finishes surfaces by smoothing and tamping asphalt surfaces inaccessible to a roller.
• Operates jackhammer, compressor, extruder, ground pounder, and related equipment.
• Repairs utility cuts by removing temporary material and replacing with permanent hot asphaltic material.
