Job summary

The City of Wilmington, NC is seeking a Construction Crew Leader to supervise street crews, plan work methods, set up work sites, and manage traffic control to keep our community safe. You will operate light to heavy equipment, train staff, monitor safety, and document progress while coordinating with other departments.

Requires a High School Diploma or GED, at least 3 years of heavy equipment experience, and a Class B CDL (Class A within 90 days).

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED.
• Minimum 3 years of heavy equipment experience.
• Current Class B CDL; ability to obtain Class A within 90 days.

Responsibilities

• Field Supervision: Assigns daily tasks, monitors work quality, and ensures safety and traffic control protocols.
• Infrastructure Maintenance: Directing traffic control around flooded areas and repairing road damage and utilities.
• Equipment Operation: Operates light, medium, and heavy machinery for installation of pipes and road maintenance.
• Compliance & Tracking: Maintains equipment, documents project progress, and ensures environmental standards compliance.
• Training & Development: Coaches subordinate workers and participates in hiring and performance evaluations.
