Job summary

City of Chicago seeks an Asphalt Foreman to supervise asphalt laborers and equipment operators performing spreading, finishing and compacting of asphalt for resurfacing and repair of City residential streets and alleys. This working supervisor/crew leader role entails directing crew activities, ensuring safety practices, coordinating daily assignments, and monitoring material flow from plant to site.

Starting salary is $53.90/hr with a yearly pay basis and a 7:00 AM–3:30 PM workday; location

Qualifications

• Two years of work experience in the paving and repair of street surfaces using asphalt materials or related asphalt equipment.
• A valid State of Illinois driver's license is required.

Responsibilities

• Supervise an assigned work crew performing semi-skilled asphalt laborer duties including raking, smoothing and tamping for resurfacing and repair of streets and alleys.
• Monitor delivery of hot asphalt from contracted plant to work sites and supervise use of asphalt equipment.
• Ensure safety procedures, barricades, and signposting are in place; complete accident and injury reports as needed.
• Receive and prioritize daily work assignments and manage crew work distribution and progress.
