Job summary

Gersh Autism seeks a compassionate Behavior Technician to support students with autism in a Bronx classroom setting. You will assist teachers with IEPs/BIPs, provide individual and small-group support, and help students with communication and self-management tasks.

Candidates should be patient, flexible, and motivated to pursue RBT certification. Full-time roles include comprehensive benefits and ongoing professional development.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent required; Associate’s degree or higher in education, psychology, or a related field preferred.
• Experience working with children, especially with autism or special needs, is a plus but not required.
• Willingness to take a course and complete testing to become a Registered Behavior Technician (RBT) within a specified time frame.
• Strong communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills.
• Ability to remain patient, empathetic, and flexible in various situations.

Responsibilities

• Assist the classroom teacher in implementing IEPs and BIPs for students with autism.
• Provide one-on-one and small group support to students, encouraging growth.
• Help students with daily tasks, including communication and social interaction.
• Prepare students and materials for activities and daily transitions.
• Support students during classroom activities, field trips, and events.
• Implement strategies from behavior intervention plans to promote self-regulation.
• Collect and document data on student performance and progress toward goals.
• Collaborate with the teaching team and behavioral specialists for a structured learning environment.
• Communicate progress and challenges to teachers and staff.
• Participate in daily training with behavioral analysts and professional development.
