Job summary

Gersh Autism is seeking a compassionate Behavior Technician (Paraprofessional) to join our team. You will work directly with students with autism, providing support in both academic and behavioral settings to help them achieve individualized goals.

The position is based in West Hempstead, NY, with school-day hours, training with behavioral analysts, and opportunities for advancement within the Gersh Autism network.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent required.
• Associate’s degree or higher in education, psychology, or a related field preferred.
• Experience working with children with autism or special needs is a plus.
• Strong communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills.

Responsibilities

• Assist the classroom teacher in implementing IEPs and BIPs for students with autism.
• Provide one-on-one and small group support to students.
• Help students with daily tasks, including communication, social interaction, and self-management skills.
• Prepare students and materials for activities and daily transitions.
• Support students during classroom activities, field trips, and school events.
• Implement behavior intervention strategies from each student’s plan to promote self-regulation.
