Job summary

Gersh Autism in Brooklyn, NY is seeking a Behavior Technician (Paraprofessional) to support students with ASD in a year-round school program. You will work directly with students in academic and behavioral settings, helping them achieve individualized goals.

Responsibilities include assisting with IEPs/BIPs, data collection, and collaboration with teachers and behavior specialists. This role offers growth through RBT certification and professional development within our network.

Qualifications

• Must have a high school diploma or equivalent; an associate’s degree or higher in education, psychology, or related field is preferred.
• Experience with children, especially those with autism or special needs, is a plus but not required.
• Passion for supporting students with autism and other developmental disabilities.
• Strong communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills.
• Ability to remain patient, empathetic, and flexible in various situations.
• Willingness to take a course and complete testing to become a Registered Behavior Technician (RBT) within a specified time frame.

Responsibilities

• Assist the classroom teacher in implementing IEPs and BIPs for students with autism.
• Provide one-on-one and small group support to students, encouraging growth.
• Help students with daily tasks, including communication, social interaction, and self-management.
• Prepare students and materials for activities and daily routines.
• Support students during classroom activities, field trips, and school events.
• Implement strategies from each student’s BIP to promote self-regulation and learning.
• Collect and document data on student performance, behavior, and progress toward goals.
• Collaborate with the teaching team and behavioral specialists to create a positive learning environment.
• Communicate effectively with teachers and staff regarding student progress and challenges.
• Participate in daily training with behavioral analysts and professional development.
