Job summary

SMX is seeking a Project & Revenue Accounting SME to report to the Senior Director, Finance. You will serve as the subject matter expert for project and revenue accounting, ensuring accurate revenue recognition and supporting a timely month- and quarter-end close.

The role requires deep ASC 606 knowledge, advanced Costpoint and Cognos skills, and the ability to collaborate across Finance, Contracts, and Operations.

Qualifications

• 6+ years of current, consecutive experience in project accounting and revenue recognition.
• Expert knowledge of ASC 606 and strong working knowledge of GAAP, FAR, and regulated environments.
• Demonstrated experience supporting DCAA and DCMA audits.
• Current, hands-on experience with Deltek Costpoint, preferably Costpoint 8.2.2026.3 or current production version.
• Recent experience with Cognos.
• Advanced/Expert Excel skills and ability to analyze large data sets.
• Demonstrated ability to troubleshoot Costpoint and revenue accounting issues.
• Current experience applying revenue recognition across CPFF, CPAF, T&M, FFP, and Commercial contracts.
• Strong analytical skills and exceptional attention to detail.
• Experience in a fast-paced, private equity-backed environment preferred.
• Exceptional communication and collaboration across Finance, Accounting, Contracts, and Operations.
• Independent, critical thinker who requires limited supervision.

Responsibilities

• Serve as a subject matter expert for project and revenue accounting and provide guidance across the organization.
• Ensure revenue is recognized accurately and timely under ASC 606 and GAAP.
• Provide advanced technical support and troubleshooting for Costpoint and revenue formulas.
• Partner with BU Finance Leads, Program Managers, Contracts, and Accounting to ensure proper setup and reporting.
• Lead month- and quarter-end close activities including unbilled revenue reviews.
• Research and resolve complex unbilled and revenue issues with audit readiness.
• Develop detailed financial analyses to identify trends, risks, and corrective actions.
• Interpret contracts and apply revenue recognition across CPFF, CPAF, T&M, FFP, and Commercial.
• Monitor controls and identify opportunities to strengthen the revenue accounting environment.
• Support DCAA and DCMA audits and related requests.
• Operate independently with sound judgment and become a trusted advisor.
