Job summary

SMX is seeking a Project & Revenue Accounting SME to join its finance team in the United States. The role reports to the Senior Director, Finance and focuses on accurate revenue recognition, GAAP/ASC 606 compliance, and month- and quarter-end close support.

The ideal candidate has deep project accounting experience, Costpoint and Cognos proficiency, and strong cross-functional collaboration across Finance, Contracts, and Operations.

Qualifications

• 6+ years of current, consecutive experience in project accounting and revenue recognition.
• Expert knowledge of ASC 606 and GAAP, FAR requirements in highly regulated environments.
• Demonstrated experience supporting DCAA/DCMA audits.
• Hands-on Costpoint experience, preferably Costpoint 8.x.
• Recent experience with Cognos.
• Advanced Excel skills for large data sets and complex analyses.
• Ability to troubleshoot Costpoint and revenue accounting issues.
• Experience applying revenue recognition across CPFF, CPAF, T&M, FFP, and Commercial contracts.
• Strong attention to detail and ability to drive resolution.
• Experience in a fast-paced accounting organization; PE-backed experience preferred.

Responsibilities

• Serve as SME for project and revenue accounting and provide technical guidance.
• Ensure accurate and timely revenue recognition under ASC 606 and GAAP.
• Provide advanced Costpoint troubleshooting support and configuration guidance.
• Partner with Finance, Contracts, and Operations to support project setup and reporting.
• Lead close activities including unbilled revenue reviews and revenue at risk analysis.
• Research and resolve complex revenue issues with strong audit readiness.
• Develop detailed financial analyses to identify trends, risks, and corrective actions.
• Interpret contracts and apply revenue methods across CPFF, CPAF, T&M, FFP, and Commercial.
