Job summary

SMX is seeking a Project & Revenue Accounting SME to report to the Senior Director, Finance and act as the subject matter expert for project and revenue accounting. The role ensures accurate revenue recognition, supports month- and quarter-end close, and drives improvements in reporting, controls, and efficiency.

Qualifications

• 6+ years of current, consecutive experience in project accounting and revenue recognition.
• Expert knowledge of ASC 606 and strong working knowledge of GAAP, FAR, and accounting requirements in highly regulated environments.
• Demonstrated experience supporting DCAA and DCMA audits.
• Current, hands-on experience with Deltek Costpoint, preferably Costpoint 8.2.2026.3 or the current production version.
• Recent experience with Cognos.
• Advanced/Expert Excel skills, including analyzing large data sets and developing sophisticated financial analyses.

Responsibilities

• Serve as a subject matter expert for project and revenue accounting and provide technical guidance across the organization.
• Ensure revenue is recognized accurately and timely in accordance with ASC 606, GAAP, and contract terms.
• Provide advanced Costpoint troubleshooting and support for revenue formulas and configurations.
• Partner with Finance Leads, Program Managers, Contracts, and Accounting to support revenue recognition and reporting.
• Lead month- and quarter-end close activities, including unbilled revenue reviews and revenue-at-risk analysis.
• Research and resolve complex unbilled and revenue-related issues with audit readiness and documentation.
• Develop and deliver detailed financial analyses to identify trends, risks, and corrective actions.
• Interpret contracts and apply revenue recognition methods across CPFF, CPAF, T&M, FFP, and Commercial contracts.
• Monitor controls and strengthen the revenue accounting environment.
• Support audits and requests related to revenue look-backs and ASC 606 compliance.
• Operate with independence and serve as a trusted advisor to Finance and Operations.
