Job summary

SMX is seeking a Project & Revenue Accounting SME to support accurate revenue recognition and a smooth month- and quarter-end close. You will leverage ASC 606 expertise and Costpoint proficiency to drive financial reporting, controls, and efficiency across Finance, Contracts, and Operations.

The ideal candidate will bring deep project accounting experience, strong Excel and Cognos skills, and a collaborative, independent mindset to partner across business units in a regulated DoD-adjacent

Qualifications

6+ years of current, consecutive experience in project accounting and revenue recognition.
Expert knowledge of ASC 606 and strong GAAP, FAR, and contracting requirements.
Experience supporting DCAA and DCMA audits.
Hands-on Costpoint experience, preferably Costpoint 8.2.2026.3.
Recent Cognos experience for reporting and analysis.
Advanced Excel skills for large data set analyses.

Responsibilities

Act as SME for project and revenue accounting and provide technical guidance.
Ensure accurate and timely revenue recognition per ASC 606 and contract terms.
Provide Costpoint support, including revenue formulas and configurations.
Collaborate with FP&A, Contracts, and Operations to ensure proper project setup.
Oversee month- and quarter-end close: unbilled revenue and revenue at risk reviews.
Resolve complex unbilled and revenue-related issues and maintain audit readiness.
Deliver detailed financial analyses to identify trends and risks.
Interpret contracts across CPFF, CPAF, T&M, FFP, and Commercial types.
