Job summary

Construction Material Testing seeks a trained-operator 3D scanning technician to capture and process handheld scans for rebar, embeds, corroded pipes, and machine parts. You will deliver meshes, point clouds, and scan-to-CAD files after on-site validation and processing in Artec Studio.

Responsibilities include planning scans, controlling drift, verifying completeness, and producing reports. Travel to regional hubs and construction sites is required.

Qualifications

• Hands-on experience operating handheld 3D scanners on real projects.
• Experience with Artec Studio or similar scan-processing software.
• Ability to read structural or fabrication drawings.
• Valid driver’s license and ability to travel.
• On-site work at construction sites and in industrial plants.

Responsibilities

• Plan and execute handheld 3D scans of rebar and embeds before concrete placement.
• Control drift on large objects with reference features, tape-measure backbones, and overlapping zones.
• Verify capture completeness on site before leaving.
• Process scans in Artec Studio: registration, fusion, mesh cleanup, texture, and export to STL, OBJ, E57, and CAD formats.
• Produce deviation color maps, measurement reports, crack maps, pit-depth tables, and anchor bolt coordinate reports against drawings or CAD.
• Build scan-to-CAD solids (STEP/IGES) for reverse engineering and fit-up checks, or hand clean meshes to the modeling team.
• Document capture procedure, equipment settings, and chain of custody on forensic matters.
• Keep the scanner, batteries, and calibration records in order.
• Coordinate access, permits, and safety with superintendents and plant contacts.
• Travel to regional hubs as assigned.
