Job summary

Construction Material Testing is seeking a 3D scanning technician to operate handheld scanners and deliver scan-to-CAD data for clients. You will scan rebar, embeds, and structural components on site, process data in Artec Studio, and provide meshes, reports, and CAD-ready files for review.

Responsibilities include planning scans, controlling drift, verifying data on site, and producing comprehensive reports and CAD exports.

Qualifications

• Hands-on experience operating handheld structured-light or laser scanners on real projects.
• Working knowledge of Artec Studio and mesh cleanup, registration, and export.
• Familiarity with CAD (SolidWorks, Fusion, Inventor, or Revit) and reading drawings.
• Comfortable on active construction sites and in industrial plants; able to carry equipment, climb, and work outdoors.
• Valid driver's license with an acceptable record.
• Willingness to travel.
• Experience with scan-to-CAD or Geomagic Design X is a plus.
• ACI, NICET, or ICC certifications a plus; we sponsor them.

Responsibilities

• Plan and execute handheld 3D scans of rebar and embeds before concrete placement.
• Control drift on large objects with reference features and overlapping zones.
• Verify capture completeness on site before leaving.
• Process scans in Artec Studio: registration, fusion, mesh cleanup, texture, and export to STL, OBJ, E57, and CAD formats.
• Produce deviation color maps, measurement reports, crack maps, and anchor bolt coordinates against drawings or CAD.
• Build scan-to-CAD solids (STEP/IGES) for reverse engineering and fit-up checks.
• Document capture procedure, equipment settings, and chain of custody on forensic matters.
• Coordinate access, permits, and safety with superintendents and plant contacts.
• Travel to regional hubs as assigned.
