Job summary

The Davey Tree Expert Company in Charlottesville, VA is seeking Arborist Trainee interns for a field-based internship beginning Spring-Summer 2027. You will work in the field with experienced arborists, performing pruning, cabling, and plant health care to develop practical skills and professional growth.

This paid internship emphasizes safety, hands-on training, and exposure to daily operations, client service, and potential career pathways across our service lines.

Qualifications

• Studying Arboriculture, Urban Forestry, Natural Resources, Horticulture, Landscape Design, Forestry or related discipline
• Enthusiasm for proper plant care and arboriculture
• Positive attitude and willingness to learn

Responsibilities

• Learn to be a tree doctor! Work in the field alongside experienced Arborists, Climbers and Plant Health Care technicians to deliver client service and maintain health of trees & landscapes.
• Tree pruning, removing, cabling, bracing and maintenance
• Safe operation of equipment including chainsaws, chippers, and other field tools
• Plant Health Care, including deep root fertilization, soil care and pest & disease management
• Exposure to daily operations and business components of a residential Tree Care office
• Client service, sales, management, and leadership fundamentals
