Job summary

The South Sound YMCA in Olympia, WA seeks an Aquatics Lead to operate the pool in the absence of the Director, ensuring safety and policy compliance. The role emphasizes a clean, balanced water environment and friendly service for members.

You will supervise aquatic staff, assist in trainings, monitor swim lesson quality, and respond to incidents per YMCA protocols while upholding mission and core values at Briggs Community YMCA.

Qualifications

• Must be at least 18 years old and meet employment history requirements.
• Current American Red Cross Lifeguarding with CPR/AED for Professional Rescuers and First Aid or equivalent.
• Pass lifeguard water test successfully.
• Possess or obtain LGI certification within 4–6 months of hire and be available to teach classes.
• Possess CPO certification or obtain within 6 months of hire.

Responsibilities

• Model safe, professional behavior and enforce pool rules.
• Respond to incidents according to YMCA policy and maintain equipment.
• Maintain a clean, organized pool area and chemically balanced water.
• Lead lifeguard pools or swim lessons during shifts and be on-call for openings.
• Support safety trainings and staff development in coordination with supervisors.
