Job summary

The YMCA of Greater Seattle is hiring an Aquatics Lead to oversee lifeguards and swim instructors, ensuring safety and program effectiveness on the deck. You will train staff, teach classes when needed, and model professional behavior for members and participants.

Qualifications

• Minimum 2 years of lifeguarding and/or swim instruction with demonstrated leadership abilities.
• Current lifeguard and swim instructor certification from a recognized organization (e.g. Red Cross, YMCA).
• Current CPR/AED and First Aid certifications.
• Current Administering Emergency Oxygen Certification.
• Ability to obtain YSLI-T and/or LGI Certification within the first 90 days, or first training offered.
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
• Ability to work flexible hours, including evenings and weekends, as required by program schedules.
• Commitment to the mission and values of the YMCA, including promoting youth development, healthy living, and social responsibility.
• Ability to obtain certification within 30 days of hire.

Responsibilities

• Provide leadership and feedback to a team of lifeguards and swim instructors.
• Assist in training and development of lifeguards and swim instructors; teach Lifeguard or Swim Lesson classes.
• Act as the primary deck contact; oversee operations and enforce safety protocols.
• Respond swiftly to aquatic emergencies and coordinate with emergency services.
• Interact with members and guests in a friendly, professional manner.
• Assist in administrative tasks and program planning improvements.
• Identify and mitigate safety hazards; maintain incident reports.
