Job summary

Seattle YMCA is seeking an Aquatics Lead to ensure the safety and effectiveness of our aquatic programs while supporting swim instructors and lifeguards on the deck. This role blends lifeguarding with supervisory duties and requires hands-on leadership on shift, including evenings and weekends.

The position oversees training, safety protocols, and emergency response; you will craft positive staff development, supervise operations, and help deliver lessons as needed.

Qualifications

• Minimum age 18+ and lifeguard/swim instruction experience.
• Current lifeguard and swim instructor certifications from a recognized org.
• CPR/AED and First Aid certifications current.
• Ability to obtain required YMCA certifications within 90 days.

Responsibilities

• Provide leadership and feedback to lifeguards and instructors on the deck.
• Train and develop staff; teach Lifeguard or Swim Lesson classes when needed.
• Oversee deck operations, safety protocols and emergency response readiness.
• Respond to aquatic emergencies and coordinate with emergency services as needed.
• Deliver friendly customer service and maintain a welcoming environment.
• Assist with administrative tasks and program planning improvements.
• Identify and mitigate safety hazards and maintain incident documentation.
