Job summary

The Seattle YMCA is seeking an Aquatics Lead to ensure the safety and effectiveness of our aquatic programs on the deck, supervising lifeguards and swim instructors. You will bridge lifeguarding duties with supervisory responsibilities, serving as a role model for professionalism, safety, and customer service.

Qualifications

• Current lifeguard and swim instructor certifications from a recognized organization (e.g. Red Cross, YMCA).
• CPR/AED and First Aid certifications.
• Administering Emergency Oxygen certification.
• Ability to obtain YSLI-T or LGI certification within the first 90 days.

Responsibilities

• Provide leadership and feedback to lifeguards and swim instructors, modeling professionalism, safety, and customer service.
• Assist in training and development of staff, and teach Lifeguard and/or Swim Lesson classes as needed.
• Oversee deck operations, maintain safety protocols, and be ready to teach or lifeguard during shifts.
• Respond swiftly to aquatic emergencies and coordinate with emergency services when necessary.
• Interact with members to address questions about programs and facilities, creating a welcoming environment.
• Assist with administrative tasks such as scheduling support and program planning feedback.
• Identify and mitigate safety hazards and maintain incident reports as required.
