Job summary

The YMCA of Greater Seattle is seeking an Aquatics Lead to ensure safe and effective aquatic programs on the deck, guiding lifeguards and swim instructors while providing strong leadership.

You will oversee day-to-day operations, supervise staff, teach lessons when needed, and respond to emergencies, all while upholding the Y’s commitment to safety and inclusion for members and guests.

Qualifications

• 18+ years of age
• Minimum of 2 years of lifeguarding and/or swim instruction with leadership abilities
• Current lifeguard and swim instructor certifications (e.g. Red Cross, YMCA)
• Current CPR/AED and First Aid certifications
• Ability to obtain YSLI-T and/or LGI within 90 days
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills
• Knowledge of aquatic safety and emergency procedures
• Ability to work evenings and weekends
• Commitment to YMCA mission and values
• Ability to obtain certification within 30 days of hire

Responsibilities

• Provide leadership and feedback to lifeguards and swim instructors; model professionalism, safety, and customer service
• Assist in training and development of staff; teach Lifeguard and/or Swim Lesson classes; assist with in-service trainings
• Act as primary deck contact; monitor operations; ensure safety and enforce policies; capable of teaching or lifeguarding during shifts
• Respond swiftly to aquatic emergencies; coordinate with emergency services; conduct drills and training
• Interact with members and guests; create a welcoming and inclusive environment for participants
• Assist administrative tasks such as scheduling support and gathering staff feedback for program planning
• Identify and mitigate safety hazards; maintain incident reports as required by YMCA policies
